IV Hydration - The Importance of Staying Hydrated

Other than quenching your thirst, the thought of staying hydrated takes a back seat in most of our lives.  We reach for the occasional glass of water throughout the day but for most of us that is the extent of our relationship with water.  However, water plays a much bigger role in our bodies than most of us thought and therefore should be made a priority.

Staying Hydrated

Drinking water is crucial to maintaining just about every system in our bodies – including our brain, heart and muscles.  Since our bodies are made up of 60% water, depriving it of the exact thing it is made of can take a serious tole on our bodies.  Key functions such as attention, coordination, and complex problem solving can suffer as a result of dehydration.  In addition, the signals being transmitted and received by our brains take a hit when we are deprived of water – this affects our ability to concentrate and can lead to bad outcomes such as mistakes or accidents.

It Doesn’t Take Much

Studies have shown that losing a mere one to two percent in water can affect physical abilities such as regulating your body temperature, muscle endurance or sports tasks.  It’s easy to forget to drink water throughout the day and its even easier to think you’ll just replenish it later.  Just remember, when your body starts to signal you – for example, by becoming thirsty – you’ve already waited to long to drink some water.

Drink Water Regularly

While the rule to drink eight 8oz glasses of water a day isn’t backed up by much scientific evidence, following some type of similar rule isn’t a bad idea.  The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine recommend increasing that amount to around 125 ounces per day.  However, it’s important to note that a portion of your day’s hydration can come from food.  Therefore, the numbers can be hard to count.  The key to staying hydrated is to drink water regularly – find a routine that works best for you and stick with it.

IV Hydration

If all this talk of water and staying hydrated is overwhelming you may need to get creative with your hydration plan.  That’s where IV Hydration comes into play.  IV Hydration is especially powerful because of its ability to immediately affect your body.  IV therapy delivers the hydration fluids straight to your veins instead of having to go through the digestion system giving you the hydration you need right away.

The standard American lifestyle can wreak havoc on our bodies if we are not careful.  Staying alert to our body’s needs is important to staying healthy.  Intravenous (IV) therapy is a great way to fill any gaps we may find in our hydration efforts.
